After a nice rest in our cellars, we are thrilled to offer the 2022 vintage of Burgundies from a new-look Domaine de Chassorney.
Begun by Frédéric Cossard in 1996 with just a few small parcels in Saint-Romain and Auxey-Duresses, the domaine now comprises ten hectares of vines spread across several villages in the Côte de Beaune. Having spent several years working alongside Fred, this vintage sees his friend Aurélien Verdet taking the reins for the first time, making the wines in his family’s cellar in the village of Arcenant.
Aurélien’s father Alain was a pioneer of organic farming in Burgundy and so it comes as no surprise that he has continued Fred’s spirited work in the vines. Many of the parcels have now been farmed organically for decades and much like his mentor, in the cellar Aurelien practises long, gentle infusions of whole bunches for Pinot Noir, whilst the whites are pressed directly to concrete eggs for élevage.
The vintage provided a warm, dry growing season that thankfully, was free from much of the disease pressure that has plagued recent years, allowing Aurélien to fill the cellar with plenty of beautiful grapes. The resulting wines are elegant, classical expressions of Burgundy which signal a new chapter in the history of Chassorney.
