As the days are getting shorter, we’ve found ourselves seeking solace with a little Puglian sunshine from Cristiano Guttarolo.
Cristiano farms seven hectares of vines outside the village of Gioia del Colle planted some four hundred metres above sea level over the rugged terrain of the Murge Plateau. The landscape produces wines that are thrillingly unique. Heady with sunkissed fruit, limestone soils impart a luminous quality, whilst the elevation lends a lightness so often missing in this part of the world.
These wines both come from the 2023 vintage, a challenging year that saw Cristiano lose almost half of his grapes due to disease. As a result, he harvested grapes from a neighbour who farms organically, making for a new look for two of his most iconic cuvées. Both offer tremendous value and share a pleasant savouriness, making them very much suited to the cooler days and nights that lay ahead.
