Ahead of his arrival in London this weekend, we are thrilled to share some sublime takes on Chenin Blanc and Pineau d’Aunis from Renaud Guettier of La Grapperie.
An early morning appointment at Renaud’s place in the Coteaux du Loir proved to be a highlight of a whirlwind tour of the Loire back in February, with the wines representing perhaps his best work to date.
Renaud tends old vines grown on a fantastic terroir of clay, limestone and silex. They have been farmed with respect for many years, and each of the wines sees a proper élevage in ancient caves carved into the tuffeau, rendering pure, mineral and complex expressions which possess a wonderful ability to age.
The majority of these wines come from the 2023 vintage, a cooler year that has produced fresh, delicate wines that are showing brilliantly in their youth. Alongside, we’ve managed to secure a couple more cases of La Diablesse from the blockbuster 2020 vintage, as well as a few magnums for those who are quick.
If you’d like to meet Renaud, he’ll be pouring his wines from 1pm this coming Sunday 18th of May at Hector’s in De Beauvoir. There is no need to book and everyone is welcome, and there will be plenty of older vintages available alongside some great cheese and charcuterie.
