Our visit to see Baptiste and his beautiful family in Anjou back in February has been one of the highlights of our year, and it gives us great pleasure to share some new wines which could not be more suited to the season.
Baptiste is the fourth generation of vignerons to tend his family’s vineyards around the village of Martigné-Briand. The son of legendary paysan vigneron Olivier Cousin, it is little surprise that he has continued the family’s tradition of tending this land with great care to produce pure, soulful wines.
Today he and his wife Gael farm four and half hectares of old vines planted amongst fruit trees and forests over three parcels. The terroir varies between quartz, schist, loam, clay and limestone and having been in the family for many years, the majority of the vines have never been subjected to chemicals. They are among the most beautiful parcels we have seen.
These new releases all come from the 2023 vintage, a cold, wet year that has produced wines of great freshness and verve. Hazy, textured and very much alive, they possess a tonic-like quality that lends great refreshment and makes for invigorating drinking. They are the wines we will be reaching for time and time again this summer.
Baptiste’s wines are now available on Tutto a Casa
