After a whirlwind tour of London, we are thrilled to share the latest releases from one of Alsace’s rising stars in Yannick Meckert.
Having spent his youth garnering experience alongside great vignerons both in his native Alsace and further afield, since returning home Yannick has, over the course of just four harvests, announced himself as one to watch in a region teeming with talent. These latest releases come from the three and half hectares he farms around the village of Obernai, along with some Pinot Noir harvested from his friend Jeanne at La Ferme des 9 Chemins in Reichsfeld.
In his own vineyards, Yannick continues to practise his own extreme take on organic agriculture, eschewing not only the use of chemicals, but also copper and sulphur, instead using clay, infusions and essential oils to help the vines. He prefers to let the wild herbs, grass and flowers around the vines grow, and the parcels teem with life.
These wines all come from the 2023 vintage, a year which feels somewhat classic after the drought of 2022. Yannick was able to harvest ripe, beautiful grapes and although low in alcohol, the resulting wines display a pleasant depth and plenty of complexity. Energetic in their youth, they possess the sort of material that suggests they will evolve beautifully with time.
Yannick’s wines are now available on Tutto a Casa
