It’s that time of year again and we could not be happier to be sharing our annual release from the queen of Beaujolais, Julie Balagny.
Last year’s was a particularly warm, dry vintage in these parts, a story that is becoming all too common and one that threatens the very identity of the wines we love from this part of the world. The plus was that Julie was able to harvest plenty of ripe, healthy grapes and fill her cellar for the first time in many years.
We spent a beautiful evening with Julie at her home the other week and she was in great form despite a terribly difficult season in the vines. Having been unable to visit last year, upon tasting these wines for the first time we were impressed with how open and expressive they are. Whilst the fruit is undoubtedly a little darker and deeper than previous vintages, the finesse we all expect from Julie is plain to see and the wines should age beautifully over the coming years.
As always, we never receive enough of her wines to satisfy all requests so please be quick.
