The 2022 Burgundies of Frédéric Cossard

After a good rest in our cellars, we are happy to share the 2022 vintage of Burgundy from Frédéric Cossard.

This release marks the first year that he has passed on the reins of Domaine de Chassorney to focus on this, his négociant project, which sees him sourcing organic grapes from some of the greatest vineyards in Burgundy and further afield and bottling them eponymously under the label ‘Frédéric Cossard’.

Fred has been a champion of organic farming from the outset, making him something of a pioneer in a region where this has only recently become commonplace. He establishes long-term relationships with growers, who are given a guide for looking after the vines to ensure that work is carried out to his lofty standards. In doing so he ensures that only the most pristine fruit makes it to his cellar tucked away in the hills of Saint-Romain.

Such scrutiny is necessary to make great wine with no additions and in recent years Fred has continued to break convention by eschewing the use of oak barrels for elévage in favour of concrete eggs, earthenware jars and Georgian qvevris in a quest to further refine his wines. The wines are made with no additions, resulting in Burgundy of rare liveliness, purity and detail.

2022 was a warm, dry vintage which allowed vignerons up and down the Côte-d’Or to harvest plenty of pristine grapes. The resulting wines are generous, perfumed and pretty in their youth, with the kind of balance that suggests they will reward drinkers for many years to come.

Fred’s wines are now available on Tutto a Casa
