We are thrilled to release another handful of new wines from legendary Catalan vigneron, Laureano Serres of Mendall.
From his home and cellar based in the hot, dusty little town of El Pinell de Brai, Laureano has been instrumental in inspiring others in Catalunya to return to their winemaking roots.
Laureano farms six hectares of vineyards spread over parcels around El Pinell and higher up in the Terra Alta, some of which are over five hundred metres above sea level. There is little topsoil, meaning the vines often dig right into the limestone bedrock below. The terroir lends Laureano’s wines a freshness and complexity that is not always common in this part of the world and produces wines that are truly one of a kind – vivid expressions of man, grape and place.
These releases all come from last year’s harvest, a cooler vintage that has produced bright, lively wines of real purity. In their youth, they posses a clarity and focus that we don’t always associate with Laureano’s wines, without foregoing any of the unbridled energy which makes them so unique.
