After what has been way too long, it gives us great pleasure to share two new releases from Trish and Piero of Gazzetta.
Having lost nearly everything in their cantina due to a tragic explosion at a nearby refugee centre at the end of 2023, the two have not had the best time of late. These wines were about all they could salvage from the cellar after that day, with much of their winemaking equipment, pallets of bottles to be sent to clients the world over, and whole vats of wine falling victim to the debris.
We travelled to Bolsena to bottle these wines together last August and they were already tasting great and with a little more time in bottle they are showing so well that even the famously self-effacing Trish considers them to be her best work to date.
The 2023 vintage was a cold, wet one around Lago di Bolsena and as a result the wines are pale, delicate and perfumed. In short, they are just the thing we’ll be reaching for at the first signs of spring and we hope they will be drunk with gusto as vignarola season comes around.
