From vines that grow near the banks of the River Ibie in a particularly beautiful part of the Ardèche, the wines of Samuel Boulay possess a rare sense of harmony and soul.
Originally from the Loire, Samuel worked for several years alongside the legendary Michel Augé before moving here in 2013 to tend five hectares of beautiful old vineyards. Famously in tune with his plants, he chooses not to cut the grass between the rows and treats the vines only with homeopathic treatments according to the cycles of the moon, resulting in vineyards that positively teem with life.
In the cellar Samuel is a purist. The wines are aged in old oak barrels for one, two or three years and unusually, are not topped up at any stage. He works without electricity, gas or pumps and the wines are bottled by gravity and labelled by hand. Samuel’s gentle and discrete nature makes for wines of rare purity. They possess an energy and nourishing quality that is incredibly compelling.
As ever, we have just received a small amount of each of Samuel’s wines, which are now available on Tutto a Casa
