It’s been a long time coming but on Sunday we will be joining our friends from Gergovie Wines in welcoming over forty of Europe’s most exciting growers to London for our annual Spring Tasting. Here is everything you need to know.
Part One: The Tasting
The tasting is this Sunday 1st May
The tasting will take the place at the Round Chapel, Lower Clapton Road (between Glenarm Road and Powerscroft Road) E5 0LY
You can see the venue on a map here
The nearest overground station is Hackney Central, a 10 minute walk
Buses 48 or 242 stop right outside the chapel, just ask your driver
The tasting starts at 11am and goes until 5pm
Entry to the tasting is £12, which entitles you to a tasting glass which you can take home and to taste all day long with what we think is a pretty amazing lineup of growers
There is no need to book, you can just pay when you arrive
We accept both cash and card for entry, food, booze and merchandise
Food by 40 Maltby Street will be available at lunchtime and you can buy a bottle of wine to accompany your lunch
Table Beer and Sour Damson Ale from The Kernel will be available all day
We will also be running a shop so you can take home some of your favourite bottles, as well as souvenir t shirts and prints
If you’d like to reserve a t shirt in your size to collect on the day, just let us know
We aren’t allowed to have lots of dogs in the Round Chapel, only a few dogs in the Round Chapel. If you would like to bring your dog, please check it is okay with us first
Part Two: The Dinner
If you come to the tasting, we’d love you to join us for dinner
Dinner will start at 6pm, we will not be taking reservations and seating will be communal on a couple of really long tables. Grab a seat for you and yours wherever you like
Steve and the guys form 40 Maltby Street will be cooking for you, so you are in good hands. There is talk of rabbit on the barbecue
There will be a short menu on a blackboard. You can order your food and a bottle of wine at the bar. We’ll open your bottle and give you a ticket. Walk to the kitchen, wait a few moments and one of the chefs will give you your food
Some friends will be playing records for you
Last orders for food are at 9pm
Last drinks are at 10pm
You have to leave for Brilliant Corners no later than 10:30pm, though we’d recommend heading there earlier
Part Three: The Party
The night is young, join the winemakers at Brilliant Corners to drink their wine and dance until the wee hours
Brilliant Corners is a great bar. The address is at 470 Kingsland Road E8 4AE, a short cab ride from the tasting
A special wine list has been written for the occasion. All the wines are from growers at the Spring Tasting and have been selected with good times and dancing in mind. All hits, no misses. We are really happy with the list
Owners and wine lovers Aneesh and Amit will be playing music you can dance to all night long
Get home safely and have a nice, long sleep because you don’t have to go to work tomorrow
See you on Sunday
