Grumello Riserva Sant’Antonio

2009

This beautiful site sits some 450 metres above sea level, just beneath the famous church of Sant’Antonio a Montagna, where the Perego’s parents were married forty years before this wine was released. The soil here is a little firmer than elsewhere in Valtellina, making for a wine that is a little more compact and powerful in nature. This spends forty five days on skins in tini, before being pressed off to old chestnut casks for a four year élevage. Reflecting the warmth of the vintage, this is a vibrant, powerful Nebbiolo that is already drinking wonderfully, but will reward the patient for many years to come.
